Residential Design: Sherwood Mid-Century Renovation

Location: Huntington Woods, MI
Client: Private
Year: 2020

This mid-century home, originally designed in 1957 by local renowned architect Isadore M. Lewis is a classic mid-century gem. This home is host to many details that defined the movement that still holds value today. The original design includes an open floor plan, sunken bathtubs, a tapered hallway, and a skylight that runs half the length of the house.

FPB Studio designed the remodel of the living space, kitchen, and the master bathroom. In close collaboration with the client, we worked to preserve the originality and charm of the home, while modernizing some of the more functional spaces. Most of the original cabinetry and millwork were still present. FPB Studio took cues from the original designs and updated materials to create new spaces that feel like they belonged in the home. The remodel included updating the master bathroom, with a custom made vanity including new plumbing. This also included a new kitchen with all new custom cabinetry, countertops, floors, and a large picture window. All new floors throughout the home ties all the original craftsmanship with the new.
