Commercial Build:
Play Space

Location: Livonia, MI
Client: Andrews Angels Academy Preschool Center
Year: 2020

Andrews Angels is a child care center and a preschool that was in need of an updated play area. The building’s existing architecture features a tall entryway, and the design takes advantage of this by giving children an outdoor experience in the indoors: A TREEHOUSE.

The structure was inspired by every child’s dream - an elevated room with places to climb, slide, draw, read, and crawl - while still focusing on safety and cleanliness. Using baltic birch plywood and various kid-friendly materials, the play structure is suited for all ages. The design intentionally separates the play area from the main entryway using a gate, and a fence made out of cubbies, which solves the client’s need for additional storage.

The use of the room’s height maximizes the children’s play area, where the footprint is 12ft x 12ft, solving Andrews Angels’ biggest design challenge: a place for unlimited imagination in a small space.
